What is Teach Assist?
Let me introduce you to Teach Assist. There are so many behind the scene jobs of teaching. Recently I was discussing a social contract about a mobile device a student in Grade 5 wanted to bring to school, however we were being proactive before it became a problem and confiscated so we were discussing a contract that had to be signed by the student, parent, teacher, counsellor, and principal so we were all on the same page. After the 30 minute meeting I then had to go and create this contract. I turned to the principal and said, "Imagine if my phone was listening and created this document, formatted it with the signature lines and printed 2 copies for me. Then I walk by the photocopier and grab it on my way back to class instead of having to go and spend additional time creating this document?" And that was the 'ah ha moment' of Teach Assist.

Hi! I'm Kylie. An elementary teacher in Victoria, BC and a graduate student in the Master's of Educational Technology at the University of British Columbia. I am passionate about improving the teaching profession so it is a more enjoyable and manageable experience for educators. It goes without saying, that an experienced teacher can provide learning opportunities that novice educators cannot, so we need to create this to be a more desirable profession. I love implementing technology, creating lessons that reach all learners in the class, and working smarter not harder by not recreating the wheel when there are so many valuable resources available, it just takes time to find them. We need to use technology to it's fullest potential and have a virtual personal assistant teachers need!

I have been a teacher for seven years and I still find that I am striving for a more work life balance. Technology has so much room to provide us educators with personalized teaching experiences, more specifically mobile technology. Our mobile device is always listening to us, so we might as well put it to work and use AI to create this technology we could once only dream of!
